Location: Charghat, Sardah, Shalua and Nimpara Unions Donors: ManusherJonnya Description: The Combating Domestic Violence Project seeks to increase awareness of women and children of their rights in the family and society, and to prevent violence against them. It encourages government to pass a new bill to eradicate domestic violence against women and children. The project is supported by Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA). The main donors of Combating Domestic Violence Project are ManusherJonnya and DFID England. Project intervenes in four unions where it helps to increase the awareness about physical, mental, social and economic torture. 93% interviewed respondents suffer from physical violence in their household according to the national research. Combating Domestic Violence Project focuses on helping the victims of torture, providing the counselling for the parties involved, organizing the rallies, meetings and trainingsto raise the women’s empowerment. Five other organizations work together with Thanapara Swallows’ project in fighting against violence in households. Every six months all partners have meeting in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, to discuss achievements and needed improvements of the project. |
